More About Chris
Hello. Thanks for clicking through to this longer version of my story. This page is for those interested in the journey of my professional life and how it has unfolded to where I am now. If you’d rather the short, more essential version you can click here to go back.
Before becoming a full-time psychotherapist and astrologer, I spent many years practising biodynamic craniosacral therapy. This form of therapy involves listening for subtle movements in the body and following the natural intelligence of symptoms as they arise; something we call ‘the tide’. My teacher and mentor in this work was a man named Gary Roba. Gary spent years of his life with a guru in India named Ramesh. His message was simple: you are not the doer. Once the impulse to ‘do’ is out of the way, space becomes open for the wisdom of the body (or perhaps soul) to arise.
Gary also received personal guidance from many of the most influential practitioners in the field, including Franklyn Sills and Ray Castellino.
After years of mentorship with Gary (we lived 20 minutes from each other for five years when I lived in Taiwan, but that’s a different story), I went on to study more formally at Body Intelligence in Australia under the guidance of Rielle Friedrich. Originally a physiotherapist before she began attuning to the deeper layers of the body, Rielle’s work is influenced by the Taoist traditions, including a dedicated QiGong practice.
In 2016 I graduated Body Intelligence and moved to Bali, Indonesia, to set up my practice in the holistic healing department of Radiantly Alive Yoga Studio. It was here that I worked partly as a craniosacral therapist and partly as an astrologer.
Astrology entered my life in 2003. It was introduced to me by a friend I met on the road named Melanie Brown. Up until then I thought that astrology was for entertainment; columns in the newspaper that said that 1/12 of the population was having the same kind of day. Melanie helped me to see underneath the surface of astrology and glimpse it as an ancient mystery tradition.
This glimpse was strengthened In 2008 when I met the astrologer, Melanie Reinhart, who became a lifelong friend and mentor. Her teachings, especially her work on Chiron, moved my astrological studies in the direction of the mythic and symbolic. I began to see astrology as an indispensable subsection of the healing arts.
In 2011, I studied at the London Faculty of Astrological Studies, completing their foundation modules. The Faculty helped me to become more grounded in the basics of the craft.
My astrology deepened considerably in 2020 when I undertook mentorship with Brian Clark. Brian is a scholar of the Classics. His knowledge of Greek Mythology, as a reflection of the complexities of the soul, as well as his particular and peculiar ability to listen just as much to the unspoken as what is said, has had a significant impact on the kind of work I do, not just astrologically.
In 2018, after a few years of successful practice at Radiantly Alive, I felt like a bridge was missing that could link the starry skies of astrology with the subtle embodiment of craniosacral therapy. And so I entered a two year program studying psychotherapy at Metavision Institute in the southern highlands of Australia. The school was set up by Christina Nielsen who was teaching alongside Elsa Henderson, David Russell and others.
It was here that I was taught, amongst other modalities, the fundamentals of Process Oriented Psychology (POP). It was pioneered by quantum physicist and Jungian analyst, Arnold Mindell and expanded upon by his wife Amy. POP works with the channels of perception to open the art of listening beyond just what our ears report to our brains. There I was taught to notice subtle shifts in atmosphere, synchronicities, unconscious body movements and other cues that the Mindells call ‘dream doors’. Through these doors we can begin to work with the ‘dreambody’: what other traditions might call ‘the soul’.
In 2020 I graduated from Metavision and went out into the world as a psychotherapist, just as the world shut down for COVID. Radiantly Alive shut down too, and so I was nudged out of the nest into my own private practice.
Since that time I have been working to weave the separate and distinct threads of my practice together. I would say that as I write this, in 2026, that rather than threads they are now a living, breathing tapestry designed to support the soul in its many manifestations towards its unfolding; like the acorn into the oak.
To help with this threading and weaving process, in 2021 I started a podcast: On the Soul’s Terms. It was originally for my own education. I wanted to tell stories so that I could get a deeper sense of the world of myth and fairytale. My guests were also people I wanted to talk to, those whose work I was moved and inspired by.
Now, six years into the podcast, it has become its own organism. Astrology is the spine. But it is fleshed out with storytelling and rich conversational fields. A place that people can tune into and reflect on their own interior worlds.
Over the last four years I’ve been touching in to Greece, a place that feels like my spiritual home. I first came in 2023 to experience the sights of Epidaurus, Delphi and Olympia. I came again the next year with my family. And the year after that I came with friend and colleague Collette Davis to run a retreat with the Samavesa community.
It was there that I met my partner, Marisel Douzeni, a Greek native. My life is now in a process of transition between Bali and Greece, with a third, imaginal foot in my hometown of Perth, Western Australia.
